Polikarpov I-16

A truely iconic Soviet aircraft from the early days of the World War II, Polikarpov I-16 was one of the first examples of a monoplane converted from a biplane. Extremely agile, I-16 had its unique design still projected into movies and animations.

Having a rather slow stall speed, I-16 pilots often evaded German fighters by causing them to overshoot its target.

Alas, they couldn't stand in the way of far superior Messserchmidt fighters in the first stages of the war. It was only when the Soviets started to field more capable fighter planes that they began to stop Germans in the air.
