The Ilyushin Il-18 was a successful short range operator which served to and from Russia and the Russian-affiliated soils. Fuel efficient engines made the short distances profitable for the airline companies again. However, the dawn of small jet airliners coupled with the apathy towards propeller driven aircrafts has brought the end for the Il-18.
